1 Non-Eurocode fire classifications for Glazing Systems (e.g. ambiguous descriptions such as “FD30”, “30/30”, “30 minutes” “FR30”) are a thing of the past and are the single biggest factor causing serious regulatory and cost increase issues across the industry from enquiry stage to Practical completion. Getting this right is half the battle.

2 If this is not known, please let us know the building tenancy arrangements (single/multiple), floor occupancy factor, perceived frequency of use of the door.

Some notes for your consideration:

  • The Acoustic Ratings offered by all Glazed Office Partitioning Contractors are dB Rw which means that the stated dB Rw acoustic rating (weighted sound reduction index for the human ear) of the system is the rating achieved under laboratory test conditions in accordance with EN ISO 717: 2013 (still current as at March 2020). It is not possible or advisable for a Glazing subcontractor to prove or offer a site tested result (dB R’w) due to various site specific factors, the most relevant one being flanking sound transmission through the structures that the glazed partition is affixed to.
  • Expect a site test result to always be less than the result of laboratory test conditions.
  • Most doors will have a lesser acoustic rating than the screens they are installed into.
